Kahanee Story

We were on a month-long trip to the US with our 6 year old daughter who had freshly fallen in love with reading. Naturally, we visited many libraries and bookstores with her. In just a month, we could see her passion for reading grow multifold. The more libraries we visited, the more curious we became. Questions started popping up in my mind, too many of them actually! Why don’t we have such libraries and bookstores back home dedicated to children? Why don’t our kids have easy access to quality books? Why are children’s books so expensive? Why don’t we have a culture that encourages kids to read for pleasure and not just for school work?

We were discussing these questions on our journey back home, while our daughter was engrossed in reading a book. She had turned into a passionate reader with just a month-long access to quality children’s literature that was right for her age. I wanted to keep her spark alive even after we were back home. I was simply fascinated by the wealth of childrens’ literature that exists around the world too! We filled our bags with as many books as possible and headed home.

Once we were back, and as I started to try to get hold of more books for my daughter, I was faced with all kinds of challenges. These challenges answered the questions that had been looming over my head. I will discuss these challenges in later posts as I am sure most of you will resonate with them. But it was during this phase that I decided to start a book library for kids and start with whatever books I had. Because our kids need access to amazing books that they would actually enjoy reading. Because our kids deserve to make memories and find solace in books! We just need to give them the right books and that’s it.

Kahanee was born with this simple idea. We are here for our children and we have been going to all lengths to bring the best of the best books for them. We are all set to make them fall in love with reading books. Wish us good luck!
